Usuhiki Gold Leaf Lacquered Wood Bowl Series

Our Kyoto gold leaf master artisan and a woodcarving artisan in the forested mountains above Kyoto collaborated to create this hand-carved, impossibly thin and light ‘usuhiki’ bowl series from the finest Japanese ‘keyaki’ zelkova wood.

The vessels are lacquered in the traditional Japanese ‘urushi’ technique, both inside and out. The inside has three layers of lacquer and two layers of gold leaf, making for a breathtakingly beautiful, yet durable surface. The outside is lacquered in either ‘kuro’ black or ‘chairo’ brown.

These bowls are a delicate and sophisticated way to enjoy both Japanese and Western cuisine.
