TOY-NJSLK-Coll

This seven piece collection features the softest, finest silk woven in Kyoto’s historic Nishijin weaving district by the weaving house that wove the first Western-style necktie silk in all Japan.

Nishijin Silk Collection patterns are rooted in the historic weaving culture of Kyoto but are contemporary and novel, designed to harmonize with both Western and Eastern interiors. The gorgeous silk sheen and unique Ojami and Settee shape have been called ‘jewel-like’ by Takaokaya’s fans.

This one-of-a-kind collection was unveiled abroad in Paris at Maison et Objet, 2014.

About Takaokaya

Takaokaya has been producing handcrafted futon bedding and zabuton cushions in the ancient imperial capital of Kyoto since 1919. The company is thought to be the only one left that still makes it’s products by hand in Kyoto. Takaokaya prestigiously sells its products at all department stores in Japan.

About Ojami and Settee Cushions

Takaokaya developed the Ojami cushion for the new millennium. The unique shape is based on a traditional azuki bean filled Japanese ‘tedama’ beanbag toy, called ‘ojami’ in Kyoto dialect. The Settee cushion is a larger, more luxurious version of the Ojami. Try Ojami as a throw pillow on the sofa and Settee for comfortably sitting on the floor.

Care and Cleaning of Ojami and Settee Cushions

Ojami and Settee are traditional Japanese zabuton cushions which means that the cover cannot be removed for washing. If soiled, gently wipe with a damp cloth. In Japan a dry-cleaner that cleans kimono can often dry-clean zabuton. However, Takaokaya recommends overseas customers take extra care not to dirty their zabuton to avoid cleaning issues. Takaokaya says that most soiling is caused by food or drink.
