Japan, and especially Kyoto's traditional arts and crafts have been disappearing for decades. It is said that in the last 30 years 90% of Kyoto’s traditional artisans have gone out of business or closed upon retirement of the proprietor. This is a real cultural loss for all of humanity. But in recent years a lot of younger people have decided to become traditional artisans and carry on Japan’s important cultural traditions.

KyotoStore’s mission is to support Japan’s cultural traditions by bringing handcrafted treasures to people all over the world. Local artisans here benefit directly from your support and are able to carry on their traditions to the next generation.

KyotoStore opened in January 2012 and offers a range of premium quality, unique and handcrafted products from traditional Kyoto artisans. We ship to most countries around the world via Japan Post. We recommend ‘EMS’ airmail service, which is registered, insured and has online tracking.

As our products are handmade some are made to order. We will let you know approximately when your order will ship and will keep you updated on progress for made to order items.
